It came as a shock to many.

Oktoberfest Beag in Cork has been cancelled, it was announced last night. It appears that it was cancelled due an objection that was lodged with the Vintners Federation of Ireland.

The beer fest took to Facebook to share the news:

"It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of the 9th annual Oktoberfest Beag Cork 2018. "Over the past 24hrs behind the scenes we have been dealing with significant resistance from the Vintners Federation of Ireland - Cork division, where yesterday we were made aware of an objection lodged against the Oktoberfest licence application. "We exhausted all efforts to resolve the few concerns they had however due to the frustration of the application and lack of support from the Cork Vintners, the deadline passed where we could not proceed with the plans without risking significant losses and disruption for all involved."

It continued by thanking the fans of the festival and those who worked to make it run smoothly:

"To our loyal ticket holders and corporate groups who plan their annual night out with us each year celebrating Oktoberfest - we deeply apologise. We sincerely thank you for all your support over the past number of years. We are all absolutely gutted!"
