JESUS MARY AND JOSEPH. The youth of today.  I’m a huge fan of tattoos. But I’m also a huge fan of my vision so this latest tattoo trend has left me baffled. It’s making my eyes water just to look at it. Apparently the latest trend in the world of body modification is tattooed eyeballs. The squeamish procedure involves having ink syringed into the eyeballs. The first person to experiment with eyeball tattooing was US based tattoo artist Luna Cobra. He told the BBC “There used to be a private body modification convention that happened every few years in Canada.That year, an old friend had Photoshopped a picture of his eyes to look blue like in Dune. I told him, 'I think I can do that for real'”. RIIIIIGHT. After Cobras initial brainwave, he convinced three volunteers to gamble their vision and test the procedure. It takes a minute amount of ink; a small injection has enough ink to cover about a quarter of the eye. It takes a few sessions to completely cover the sclera, which is then coloured for life. Cobra has done it for hundreds of people - in blue, green, red and black. “If you want to amuse yourself by decorating your eyeball, why not do it? I do a lot of things that look like tie-dye or 'cosmic space'. I think it brings a realm of fantasy into everyday life,” he said. I can think of a billion reasons not to do it and lean to agree with Jeffrey Walline, the chair-elect of the association's Contact Lens and Cornea Council. He says, “My advice is not to do it as there's not enough benefit to even warrant considering that risk of potential pain and loss of vision”. Eh. Check out the gallery below.
