Are you currently looking for a job? Then today’s your lucky day. Eh, providing you’re okay with overlooking any family obligations, not taking any holidays and not attending any weddings in Rio.

This is, possibly, one of the most extreme job specifications that we’ve ever come across on the internet. Hey, we know it’s a tough market for employers and employees alike, but seriously. We think this job advert from Dalkey Archive Press takes the biscuit.

The advert states that the publishing house has begun “the process of succession from the founder and current publisher, John O’Brien, to a publishing house” that will be located in London. The publishing house is now looking to develop its staff in London.

Now, they’re looking for the usual: promising candidates who have a suitable background and who are well read when it comes to literature in general and the books that they publish. Fair enough. But then things get a little… INTENSE.

Willing to work for no money and no holidays?

The advert states that candidates must:

“Do whatever is required of them to make the Press succeed; do not have any other commitments (personal or professional) that will interfere with their work at the Press (family obligations, writing, involvement with other organizations, degrees to be finished, holidays to be taken, weddings to attend in Rio, etc.);"

You can expect to find yourself immediately fired if you gossip, are unavailable at night/weekends, “give unsolicited advice about how to run things,” surf the internet at work, complain and fail to respond to emails in a timely manner.

In the words of Ron Burgundy… well… that escalated quickly!
