Yesterday Met Éireann issued an orange weather alert but now they have issued a red alert.
Later this evening, the weather is expected to take a turn for the worse with gale force winds and low temperatures.
According to the
Irish Examiner, gusts of up to 140 kilometres per hour are expected in some coastal areas and there is a risk of flooding. Drivers should also be careful on the roads as black ice is appearing in parts.
Those planning to head away should check with their travel providers in advance as some ferry services have been cancelled. For the moment the airports are functioning as normal.
The red alert will be in effect until tomorrow at 3.00pm. If you are going somewhere, please do take extra care and be safe.
