This man tried to disguise his turtle in the weirdest way imaginable

Working in this field, we see a lot weird and wonderful things on a daily basis.

But when we think about it, journalism must be small fry compared to what the fine people at security checkpoints in airports witness all the time. TV shows like Border Security make for compulsive viewing. It beggars belief some of the contraband that misguided passengers think they can smuggle past officials. This story, though, takes the proverbial biscuit. A man was caught attempting to bring his pet turtle through airport security at Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport by disguising it as a KFC burger. https://twitter.com/horser2/status/763093875300773888 The incident happened on 29 July when the man, identified only by his second name Li, was about to board China Southern Airlines flight 345 to Beijing. Li decided to hide his pet turtle between two slices of a sesame seed burger bun and put him in a KFC hamburger box. When going through the X-Ray machine, officials noticed that something was awry. Airport staff detected “weird protrusions” coming from the alleged burger that the man had packed in his bag. Li’s immediate response is gold:

“There’s no turtle in there, just a hamburger “There’s nothing special to see inside."

Despite his best attempts to dissuade the officials from checking his bag, he eventually relented. Li’s motivation for his deceit was a noble one. He didn’t want to be separated from his “beloved” pet. The staff had to patiently explain to poor Li that turtles could not be smuggled onto the plane and Li eventually decided to allow a friend look after the turtle while he was away. Bless.
