What a great idea!
Every year in the run up to Christmas we are reminded of those people that are less fortunate than ourselves, especially the homeless.
Ireland is facing the highest level of homeless in decades. It is estimated that there are almost 1,000 families living without a home in Dublin alone. According to
Focus Ireland, the number of families becoming homeless has increased by over 40% since last year.
I think we can all agree that it's an absolute disgrace.
This year Luas is giving Dublin commuters the chance to do their bit to help the homeless in the capital and we have to say we absolutely love this idea.
Luas have teamed up with
Inner City Helping Homeless for the Christmas Shoe Box Appeal for the second year running.
Last year the staff at Luas managed to collect 3,000 shoeboxes, but this year they are hoping to smash that record and collect 5,000 shoeboxes to be distributed to the homeless throughout the festive period.
The idea is simple. All you have to do is fill a shoe box with gifts and toiletries and leave it at the Connolly Luas stop on Thursday the 8th of December between 7am-7pm. The boxes will be gathered up by staff and handed out to those who need them most.
Here's an idea of a few of the things you can include:
- Socks
- Underwear
- Tooth paste / Tooth brush
- Roll on Deodorant
- Shower Gel / Shampoo
- Hand / Body Lotion
- Chocolate / Sweets
- Female Hygiene Products
Here's their video from last year's campaign.
