Embarrassing moments – we all have them and when we’re dehydrated we tend to have even more of them. This is because dehydration causes us to lose our mental focus and do silly things.
For the next six weeks we’re teaming up with Deep RiverRock to have a look at some of the most embarrassing things that can happen to us and, more importantly, how to recover from these awkward instances.
You can recover from any mortifying moment, but if you’d like to try and avoid them completely, it’s worth keeping yourself hydrated so your wits are always in tip-top condition.
Remember: the human body is made up of at least 60 per cent water. So stay hydrated and keep your cool no matter what happens!
___________
That awkward moment when... you realise you’re sitting in the wrong college lecture

"If this is an English lecture why am I taking notes about engineering?!"
Zoning out in college – it’s something that we’ve all done at some point in our lives however it can have seriously embarrassing consequences, especially when you find yourself some place that you really shouldn’t be.
It’s important to keep yourself hydrated when you’re on campus because not only will it help you to stay alert and focussed on all that information you’re learning, it’ll also help you to avoid doing the following...
There is nothing worse than realising that you’re sitting in the wrong lecture. You know how it is. You’re on autopilot, not really paying attention. You assume you have an English lecture in Theatre 1 at 3pm, so you sit down and make yourself comfy. At 3.01pm the lecture starts and... well... it isn’t aout English. Actually it’s about engineering and in order to leave you have to disrupt a row of at least 12 people. Awks!
How to recover:
Unless you want to further your English degree with some engineering, the best thing you can do is leave. Believe it or not, people make these kinds of mistakes the whole time. Yes it will be embarrassing and yes, you are likely to get a few death glares from the people who have to move to let you leave but there’s nothing you can do. Let’s be honest, do you really have an extra hour of your life to spare to sit there until the lecture is over?
When you realise your mistake, simply gather your stuff as quickly and as quietly as possible and stand up. Just say ‘excuse me’ and start making your way to the door. If the lecturer actually stops the lecture to ask you where you’re going (the evil ones tend to do this) just be honest and say “I’m in the wrong place.” People will laugh but hey, what do you care – you’ll never see any of them again (eh... unless you decide that engineering is your true calling).
Leave the lecture theatre and make sure you take the time to rehydrate yourself. The last thing you want is to make the same mistake again...
When you can’t think straight... hydrate.
