The Board of Dental Examiners in the US has launched an investigation after a baby girl died after a trip to a dentist in North Austin. Fox7 reports that Betty Squier took her 14-month-old daughter, Daisy Lynn Torres, to Austin Children’s Dentistry on Tuesday morning for a routine cavity filling. “I had originally went over there because they said she had two cavities,” Betty said. She continued to explain that the procedure quickly changed as the dentist informed the mother that Daisy Lynn actually required six filings. “I was sitting down and he came in the room and he told me, ‘Well, real quick, it turns out she has six cavities,’ and she has eight teeth,” said Betty. He recommended putting her under anesthetic. She told Fox7: “It wasn't that long until they called me back there saying that there were complications, that she wasn't breathing and she had gone into cardiac arrest.” The dentist told Betty that her daughter would be fine and they performed CPR but he refused to let Betty near her Daisy Lynn until the Emergency Services arrived. “When EMS came, they told me to give her a kiss bye before they put her on the ambulance, but we already knew that she was gone there, that she had passed away at the dentist’s office,” said Betty. “She was a healthy baby and something went wrong. Somebody made a mistake,” said the mother.
