So Sunday evening has rolled around again, but thanks to the bonus day off that comes with a Bank Holiday Weekend, there’s no need to have that horrible ‘Glenroe’ feeling that has stuck with us since childhood. The extra day will be gone before you know it though, so why not make the most of it with some of these suggestions. After all, we have to wait until August for the next one…

Lie-In, But Not Too Late
One of life’s little luxuries, the sleep in that comes with a Bank Holiday Monday is a small joy that’s worth its weight in gold. No alarm clock shrilling at you to wake up and get into another week, just blissful slumber through the small hours. But, if you stay in bed until lunchtime, you’re setting yourself up for a sleepless Monday night and a tough Tuesday. Give yourself an extra hour, then arise to enjoy the free day ahead of you!
Closet Clear Out
Yes, we know clearing out your wardrobe doesn’t exactly scream ‘Bank Holiday Fun’, but trust us, we’re going somewhere with this! Spend even just one hour tackling your clothes, parting with anything that hasn’t been worn in a year or anything you swore you’d get taken in/out/up over six months ago. Put them all in a bag and bring them to the charity shop of your choice. You’ve done some good by donating, and you’ve freed up space in your closet for the next splurge – win!

Fun with an Old Friend
It’s one of the things you swear you’ll do every weekend, but time flies and before you know it another weekend is over. Act now and call that person you want to catch up with, and make plans for a coffee and a chat.
Picnic in the Park
Make the most of the glorious weather this week and pack yourself a picnic basket to take to any one of the beautiful spots around the country. A blanket, a bottle and a feast fit for kings but made for a fiver, sure who could say no?

Be honest, how big is your current ‘Must Read’ pile? If like many of us you keep meaning to get around to a stack of novels but never really find the time until you’re getting on a plane somewhere, read today. Skip the housework and sit down with some music playing, outside, if the sun stays around, and get lost in a fictional world for an hour or two.
Bake Up a Batch
There’s nothing quite like the smell of freshly baked goods in your kitchen, so why not whip up something tasty on Monday afternoon. Ready-made treats you can use to brighten up Tuesday, and the process is fun too. Just agree in advance that someone else will do the washing up and you’re on to a winner.

Set your Goals
If by Monday you’re dreading work on Tuesday, as opposed to just wanting more holidays like most of us, have a think about whether or not you’re in the right role. If you hate what you’re doing, put an hour aside to update your CV, and have a think about what you really want to be doing with your life. Having some clear goal will make facing back into Tuesday easier, as you may be able to see beyond your current role.
Game On
Avoid the alcohol on Monday night, chances are you’ve had your fill after the weekend anyway! Instead, get some friends together and root out the classics like Monopoly and Cluedo for some cheap and cheerful fun.
