Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling has revealed that she reckons Harry and Hermione should have ended up together as opposed to Hermione and Ron.
During an interview with Emma Watson (who plays Hermione Granger in the film franchise) for
Wonderland magazine, Rowling made the confession.
“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfilment. That’s how it was conceived really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”
She added: “I’m sorry, I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility.”
The statement comes five years after the final book instalment, which ends with an epilogue in which Hermione and Ron are married with two children while Harry and Ginny (Ron’s sister) are married with three children, and will no doubt break more than a few fans’ hearts... including our own!
