The birthplace of democracy, theatre, philosophy and the Olympic Games, Greece is one of the world's most fascinating countries.
Home to Greek Gods, Helen of Troy, and some of the world's best parties, colourful Greece is top of our sun holiday wishlist. And that, friends, is not a short list.
Its remarkably rich culture and ancient history is almost as stunning as its beautiful beaches, white-washed villages and paradise islands.
Here are six reasons we
really want to visit the land of Hellas this summer.
1. The mouthwatering Mediterranean cuisine

The Greeks know how to do food. The salads, the feta, the moussaka, the halva. We want to try all of these tasty dishes in their native land. Our mouths are watering just thinking about it.
2. The breathtakingly beautiful beaches

From Elafonisi in Crete to Plaka Beach in Naxos, there are a myriad of magnificent beaches scattered across Greece. And we want to visit all of them. The sparkling turquoise water, the sandy beaches, the sailing, the snorkeling. They're like little pieces of heaven on earth.
3. The non-stop nightlife

The Greeks know how to have a party, and we respect that. Whether you're sipping on daiquiris in Santorini, or dancing your socks off in downtown Athens, there's a great night out to be had wherever you find yourself in this fun-loving country.
4. The endless island-hopping opportunities

Any excuse for a spot of island-hopping, are we right? Greece's archipelago is made up of over 1,000 picturesque little islands. From Naxos and Poros to Tinos, Ios and Sifnos, our dream would be to spend an entire summer exploring all of the remote, the medieval and the modern islands in the Aegean Sea. All aboard!
5. The awe-inspiring architecture

The major influence of ancient Greek architecture can be seen in the design of buildings in towns and cities all over the world. Famous for their incredible Doric and Ionic temples, the best example can found at the Parthenon in Athens. Built in the 5th century to advertise Athen's success to the world, it still stands on the capital city's acropolis. Other highlights include the Temple of Zeus at Olympia and the Temple of Artemis at Epesus, both built in the fifth century.
6. The magical mountain views

From the majestic Mount Olympus, home of the ancients god, to Mount Parnassus, home of poetry, literature and learning, there are over 40 different mountains in Greece. In fact 80 per cent of the country is mountainous. Plan the perfect hiking holiday before relaxing with friends and loves ones on a deserted beach. Bliss.
