We all have one or two friends who like to post snaps of their kids online. Yes, they’re adorable, and we can ‘like’, ‘love’ or post a comment on snaps of those chubby cheeks, but we rarely think of Facebook being anything other than a way to connect with friends and family. Now the social media giant are planning to send out a warning to any parent posting snaps of their children online – to get them to think twice before they press ‘publish’. The move will see Facebook alert users with a warning that they’re about to share a snap of their children with a ‘public’ audience – and will prompt parents to think about being more selective about who is accessing their content. The site currently allows users to restrict what photos appear in their timelines, and who can actively see the posts. According to Metro UK, the plans were unveiled by Facebook’s vice president of engineering Jay Parikh, who was speaking at an event in the UK this week: “If I were to upload a photo of my kids playing at the park and I accidentally had it shared with the public, this system could say, “Hey wait a minute, this is a photo of your kids, normally you post this to just your family members, are you sure you want to do this?” “I think it’s a nice intelligent way for us to help you manage all of the data and the information around you.” It’s believed the move will also make it easier for Facebook to track and keep tabs on objectionable content appearing on site.
