An EasyJet flight destined for Gatwick airport was forced to make an emergency landing yesterday, after a drunk passenger attempted to open the door at 30,000 feet.
The British man in his 30s was allegedly charging up and down the aisles in an anxious state before attempting to pull open the hatch.
According to the Evening Standard, passengers claimed the man was ‘guzzling’ spirits he brought on board from duty-free. He then shoved his girlfriend while she was trying to calm him down.
The plane, flying from Marrakech to Gatwick, was forced to land in Bordeaux where the passenger was escorted off the plane by police.
An easyJet spokesman said:
"EasyJet can confirm that flight EZY8896 from Marrakech to London Gatwick on 7 March diverted to Bordeaux as a result of a passenger onboard behaving in a disruptive manner.
"The aircraft was met by the police on arrival at Bordeaux and the passenger disembarked.
"Whilst such incidents are rare we take them very seriously, do not tolerate abusive or threatening behaviour onboard and always push for prosecution."
French police are now investigating the incident.
