Like a two-hour fashion show with friends, some movies are just like having the perfect lookbook come to life in front of you. Here’s Her.ie’s pick of the top five movies for fashion fans.
Solely based on style, so no snide comments about how Godawful some of the plot points are!

The Devil Wears Prada – Meryl Streep is all kinds of awesome in this 2006 adaptation of Lauren Weisberger’s novel, but it was Anne Hathaway’s wardrobe that really stole the show. We’d have worked like a woman possessed for Miranda Priestly too if it meant getting our grubby hands inside the doors of that ‘Runway’ closet, and in particular on those Chanel boots.

Sex and the City – The Her.ie girls are split on our opinions of this 2008 movie, we had high expectations from the stars of one of our favourite TV shows ever, but there is no denying that the film is worth watching for the wardrobe alone. The scene where the girls have a mini fashion show as Carrie decides what clothes to bring to her new home deserves a special mention. Amazing!

Coco Before Chanel – One of the most iconic brands in the world started with Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel. This French movie from 2009 has Audrey Tatou play the famous designer in the years before she reached the height of her success. Costume designer Catherine Leterrier had her work cut out for her dressing the world’s most famous designer but the look is a complete chic success.

Clueless – Hands up who bought check skirts, white shirts and pullovers after watching this 1995 movie? Not just me then. That computerised wardrobe was a thing of beauty that we pined after, and there were some choice fashion quotes throughout the movie too. We particularly like this exchange between Cher and her father; Mel: What the hell is that? Cher: A dress. Mel: Says who? Cher: Calvin Klein.

Breakfast At Tiffany’s – This 1961 movie set the standard for the Little Black Dress. One of our all-time fashion icons Audrey Hepburn lights up the screen as Holly Golightly, resplendent in her gloves, tiara and pearls. Not a look we recommend when you’re hanging out outside your local town jewellers having a bagel, but Audrey made it work. They just don’t make stars like they used to…
