Vivian Boyack and Alice Dubes got married at the weekend after a 72 year relationship.
Ninety one-year-old Vivian and Alice (90) are together since 1942 and met in their hometown of Yale, Iowa. They moved to Davenport together in 1947 but also made time to travel regularly.
They have been to every single US state, all the provinces in Canada and have visited England twice.
Reverend Linda Hunasker who officiated at the ceremony said that it was "celebration of something that should have happened a very long time ago". `Same sex marriage first became legal in Iowa in 2009.
The couple, who exchanged vows at the First Christian Church in Davenport in front of family and friends, told Iowan newspaper The Quad City Times that "it is never too late for people to write new chapters in their lives."
Jerry Yeast (73) was a guest at the wedding and said: “I’ve known these two women all my life, and I can tell you, they are special. This is a very special day for all of us".
