The show might be getting a lot of negative attention at the moment but that didn’t stop Coronation Street from taking home the award for Best Soap at the 2013 TV Choice Awards last night.
Corrie saw off strong competition to take home the coveted title and it wasn’t the only one they were celebrating. Newly-engaged Michelle Keegan was named Best Soap Actress for her portrayal of Tina McIntyre.
Despite not being able to make it to the event, she tweeted: "who took the time out and voted for me. This means so much. Thankyouuu! WOW what an amazing day! I have to keep pinching myself #solucky X [sic]".
Michelle Keegan did not make it to the awards in London yesterday evening.
The male equivalent, Best Soap Actor, was claimed by EastEnders favourite Shane Richie (Alfie Moon). His co-star David Witts (Joey Branning) took home the gong for Best Soap Newcomer.
David Tennant was crowned Best Actor for Broadchurch, which also got Best New Drama, while Miranda Hart received the Best Actress title for her role in Call The Midwife.
David Tennant was among the individual winners.
Sci-fi hit Doctor Who ended up with two awards, Best Drama Series along with the Outstanding Contribution Award, and on the other end of the spectrum Mrs Brown’s Boys claimed Best Comedy.
As always Ant and Dec had a good night with I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here (Best Reality Show), Britain’s Got Talent (Best Talent Show) and Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway (Best Entertainment Show) all taking home prizes.
Other winners on the night included The Jeremy Kyle Show (Best Daytime Show), Jamie’s 15 Minute Meals (Best Food Show), Paul O’Grady: For The Love Of Dogs (Best Factual Entertainment & Lifestyle Show) and The Big Bang Theory (Best International Show).
