If you've been dreaming of a place to quite literally get away from it all, you might be interested in this island off the coast of Ballyshannon, Donegal. Previously shown on RTÉ's Selling Ireland's Dream Homes, Inis Saimer is a private residential island surrounded by the sometimes tranquil waters of the Erne Estuary in Ballyshannon Harbour, perched along the Wild Atlantic Way. While Inis Saimer is a sheltered, private place the island does have its own private floating jetty, providing safe all-tide access to Ballyshannon's Mall Quay in just one minute by boat. So while you'd have your island haven all to yourself, you could also get over to Ballyshannon's pubs, shops and restaurants in a flash if solitude ever gets too much for you. Inis Saimer could also potentially be the dream work-from-home spot, as the house is connected to the national electricity grid, has good internet reception and has been surveyed for fibre optic broadband. Logging onto the morning office catch up from your own private island does sound tempting, in fairness.
