“The future of our faith is here… It's everything.”
So says Angelique Porres, one of the many Catholics currently keeping the faith outside the Sistine Chapel, on watch for the election of a new pope.
Speaking to NBC News, the American called the chance to watch a newly-elected pope emerge a “once-in-a-lifetime chance", but one other bystander had an entirely more Irish take on proceedings.
In this picture, taken yesterday and also posted by NBC News, one of those bystanders in Rome joined a line of home-made ‘USA for Pope’ signs with the altogether more imaginative ‘Len Brennan for Pope’.
She’s not the first to suggest it, but she may well be the first to do so while actually IN St. Peter’s Square, so let’s hope the conclave possess some excellent binoculars.
Maybe Len is the exact kind of ‘kick up the arse’ the church needs…
