Song quotes aside, we all know how magical being in love can be. At times, throughout our lives, we find ourselves single in a sea of couples, and no matter how much we love our independence, there are a few things we encounter which puzzle us.

Being single is incredibly liberating, you don't have to check in with anybody, you can move through life making independent decisions and more importantly, you can eat and watch whatever you want (DROP THE REMOTE).
Alas, it's not all rosy. We've compiled a list of things you'll ONLY understand if you're the only single in the village.
- Being excluded: For some reason, couples seem to think that singles can't function at lunches, brunches or dinners without a significant other. You inevitably get invited to the 'just the girls' events, which are incredibly fun, but we can eat without a boy in the room.

- Being broke: Ok we're getting down to the nitty-gritty, if we're not given a plus one for events, sh*t gets expensive. Just because we're not in a serious relationship doesn't mean we can't share the 'love' with other people, and by 'love' we mean room rates. Just give us the plus one, we'll find someone.

- Being asked inappropriate questions: Why are people so uncomfortable with a single woman at a certain age. Please don't ask about past relationships... it's weird, how would you feel if I asked you about an ex with your husband standing there? It doesn't happen.
- Being subjected to wedding talk: When you don't necessarily believe in weddings or marriage it can get a little tough hearing about them all the time, although this might explain why we don't get invited to lunch/brunch/dinner. Look at it this way... do you have any interest in football matches? Do you want to hear about them all the time? Case closed.

- Being not so subtly questioned about your happiness: Yes, you can be truly happy if you're alone... see above regarding eating and watching things.
- Being cock-blocked: When you're out partying but it's 'just the girls' so any individual who even attempts conversation is up sh*t creek without a paddle. Good effort mate... it's not happening.

- Missing your friends: Life moves on, but sometimes you miss your friends. All the other halves are delightful, but the individual relationship you had with some people can never be regained, and that's a bit sad at times.
- Being reminded that true love exists: Looking at your best friends being truly happy reminds you that the perfect person is out there for everyone, but still... invite me to brunch while we wait.
