They are completely brilliant and we wouldn't be without them, even if some take a little explaining. Here are just a few of the phrases that only Irish people can get away with saying. ''I'm dying a death.'' But dying is death, right? 'I'm off to buy the messages.'' You what now? Only in Ireland would we call nipping out to get some groceries ''buying the messages.'' ''Horse that into the press there.'' Usually muttered when you're putting away said messages. ''You're letting all the bad air in...'' So just how many types or air are there exactly? At least we know that you should never leave the front door open. ''She ate the head off me.'' Okay, just a little bit melodramatic doncha think? It usually just means someone got a little bit angry. Well, thank God for that. ''Take her handy.'' Wait, what? Who are we taking handy exactly?  ''Cop yourself on.'' Cop myself on to what? We might never know. “It’s not off the ground she licked it.” In other words, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
