Holidays are one of life’s great joys but in order to have those, you usually have to go through the airport and that tends to be an experience in itself. Here are 10 things that everyone goes through at the airport...

The interrogation at check-in We know it has to be done for security reasons but sometimes we just feel like saying that someone else packed our bags and we’ve got a load of sharp objects to bring onto the plane. Also, check-in just wouldn’t be check-in if we didn’t hold our breaths while our bags are being weighed. Breakfast time It doesn’t matter what time of the day it is, you always have to have breakfast and it’s always a fry. End of. Cheers! Anyone for a beer? Sure let’s make it three! (Your holiday hasn’t officially started until you find yourself at the bar.) The toilet stop Always go before. “WHERE IS MY PASSPORT/BOARDING PASS?” You could have checked a hundred times before you left the house, a hundred times in the car on the way to the airport and another hundred times standing in the check-in line but you will still go through this panic. Also, it’s in your jacket pocket. Panic stations approaching security From liquids having to go into those tiny plastic bags to the fear that you’ve got something to hide (you don’t but the fear is always there), security is a nightmare. The pat down/bag search Every. Time. Shopping spree For some reason, when you go the airport it’s like you’re seeing shops for the first time and you have to buy something (that you could easily get in town for around the same price). Then there’s the ritual of the magazine/sweet run so that you’re ready for the flight. The game where you try to fit all of said shopping into your hand luggage You should have thought about this before you decided to clear the shelves. The great rush You’d think we’d learn to leave the house a little earlier or not spend so much time in the shops but we never do. Therefore we never have a nice leisurely walk to the gate. Ah well, at least we work off the fry and those beers before we jet off!
