Sex and the City taught us a lot.

From how to accessorise a tulle skirt, to the perfect cocktail to order on a girls night out (it's a cosmo by the way). But the most important lessons the show taught us were usually about relationships. From Big to Aidan and from Trey to Harry the SATC girls had a lot of good, bad, and shall we say interesting relationships down through the years. SATC was and still is one of the all time great tv shows for women, the first show to say it like it is and give us the real raw deal on relationships. Anyone who has had the unfortunate pleasure of being in one knows this is true. Not only are they exhausting, but they also  usually end in heart break.  Who needs 'em? Not us. We don't know how Carrie managed during her rough years with Big. We could barely cope with all the emotional turmoil. via GIPHY Cheating always ends badly For everyone involved as demonstrated by the Carrie, Aidan, Big fiasco. It might feel good at the time, but in the end, everyone will just wind up miserable. Especially poor Aidan. Yes, a post-it note! How dare he! But, sometimes life has other plans. Charlotte was convinced that Trey was her knight in shining armour and look how that turned out. via GIPHY Looks aren't everything Harry and Charlotte's relationship taught us that sometimes you can find romance in the least likely of places. Looks definitely aren't everything and more often than not it's someone's personality that will make a lasting impression. Plus they were by far the cutest couple in the whole series. via GIPHY  It's okay to just want a bit of fun Samantha was the queen of fun relationships. She taught us that's it's okay to not want anything serious and to just enjoy the moment while it lasts.  Every women deserves to make her own rules. Samantha we salute you! via GIPHY Sometimes it is okay to forgive and forget We couldn't help but admire Miranda during her split from Steve. Despite her heart break, she realised that she truly loved steve and wanted to be with him no matter what, teaching us that sometimes it's okay to let your heart rule your head. via GIPHY  Always put yourself first It's all well and good looking after your partner but sometimes you have to put yourself first. Samantha always made herself the number one priority and she was 100% right to do so even if Smith Gerard was totally dreamy. via GIPHY  Dating is exhausting Can we just nap already? Going on dates, maintaining relationships and coming up with flirty texts is exhausting. At one stage or another, Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte, and Miranda all simply got fed up of dating and we can't say we blame them. Playing the field is so tiring, sometimes you just need a break. via GIPHY Your friends are the most important thing Probably the most important piece of relationship advice that we learned from the show was that sometimes your friends are really all you need.
