Every woman ever knows periods aren't a walk in the park. From pre-period cramping to sore boobs, the cost of sanitary items to the unexpected bed bleeding - periods are a full-time job, one that needs TLC, plenty of toilet visits, panadol and an emergency pair of knickers in your bag.
But again, these are all things that are kept hush-hush, often seen as taboo, rejected by society, as if there isn't millions of women going through the exact same thing at the exact same time every single day.
Periods are nothing but another aspect of daily life so, why don't we talk about them like they are?
One Instagram user, Molly-Margaret Johnson, who goes by the name @whaswrongwithmyvagina depicts her period online for exactly what it is and has since grown a following from people who firstly, find comfort in knowing they're not alone when it comes to menstruation queries and woes and secondly, for showcasing the raw, unfiltered truth of periods on our feeds - something which is practically non-exsistant.
Speaking about her period online, Molly said:
"We never see it.
"It’s replaced by blue goo in commercials and ads, and we’re not out here comparing and contrasting our flow with other people with periods. It’s all behind closed doors. It’s the unknown."
Menstruation not being spoken about doesn't make it go away or any easier for half the world's population who deal with it on a monthly basis. Speaking to Teen Vogue, Molly added:
"I hope people remember we’re all having the same experience, whether we talk about it or not. Whether it be periods, sex, body issues — we’re all going through it. It’s a great disservice to not talk about it with each other, and I want to change that."
Preach it.
