Cathy says:
"Although I've run a couple of 10Ks before (two to be precise) training at the moment is abysmal.
I've gone for the odd sporadic jog but I'm definitely putting off the proper hardcore training, telling myself "it's not until May, you've loads of time.
That was before I realised that April is almost halfway over and then I have a month. A mere four weeks to get up to speed. Yikes.
Our snazzy 'Night Run' t-shirts arrived this week too, making the whole thing very real. I need to get my ass in gear. Literally."
Ariana says:
"Let’s get one thing straight. I do not run.
I don’t run for the bus, I don’t run if I’m late, I don’t run if someone has been kind enough to hold a door open for me when I’m a significant distance away meaning I have to do that awkward shuffle, skip, half run to the door, I especially don’t run on a treadmill.
No no I don’t do any of that, so when my work team eagerly signed up for the Virgin Night Run I surprised the hell out of myself when I said I would do it too. Maybe it was the FOMO, maybe it was my competitive nature or maybe it was just the inspiration I needed to get fit and lose some weight. Whatever it was I found myself running on a treadmill last week for the first time in…. well….ever.
Luckily my brother is a personal trainer so I have enlisted his help to put together a training program and I have a gym in my apartment complex so I really have zero excuses when it comes to getting my sweat on.
I am aiming to do 4 gym session a week. So far I have done 5 since last Wednesday so I’m not doing too badly.
I am alternating between cardio and weights. When on the treadmill/cross trainer I am sustaining a 7-minute km which I am hoping to drastically improve upon by the time the Virgin night run comes around on 22nd May.
I’m also doing intermittent fasting just to try and kick my metabolism up a notch. 16 hours of fasting with 8 hours of eating healthily in between. I’m not finding it too difficult so far so long may it continue.
Taking workout selfies which I send to my brother to prove I am on course has helped me to stay motivated. I’m now also sending him pictures of my breakfast, lunch and dinner which I am sure he is only thrilled about!"
Week 2 and I’m more motivated to complete this run in a reasonable time than I ever was before."
Stay tuned for more updates from the team, and we'll see you at the starting line! #VMNightRun
