There is a new medicine containing cocoa that has shown to be better at stopping coughs than the standard cough medicine as reported by News 8. The over-the-counter remedy was monitored in a large study and it was found that users noticed significant improvements in just two days. Cocoa has properties that relieve irritation of the mucous membranes in the mouth by forming a protective film. This can protect your throat from a cough. Drinking hot chocolate or eating a bar may not be very effective, however, because it doesn't sit on the throat long enough. Sucking a chocolate sweet may work better but overall a concentrated medicine containing cocoa is the best way to go.
