Over the last number of months, we’ve certainly learned a thing or two about the wide range of contraceptives that are available on the market today. Now, we are going to continue our focus on health by studying a wide range of different illnesses and ailments. ___________________________________________________________ There are a lot of myths out there about having sex while pregnant, from having sex will harm your baby to the types of positions you should and shouldn’t try out. Here we debunk some of these myths and find out what the experts have to say. Is it safe? It is perfectly safe to have sex during pregnancy as your partner’s penis – despite what many people think – cannot penetrate beyond the vagina. What about my sex drive? It is normal for your sex drive to change during pregnancy but discuss it with your partner so that you both know what’s going on. Should I avoid sex? There are some stages in pregnancy when sex should be avoided and your midwife or doctor will advise you on this. If you are experiencing heavy bleeding during pregnancy, if your waters are broken then you will be advised to avoid sex. Consult your GP or midwife if you are in any doubt. What’s the best position? There’s no magic answer to this one only to find a position that you find the most comfortable. It might need some experimenting – which is always the fun part – but don’t be afraid to try something different out, and it may even be more comfortable for you to each lie on your side. _________________________________________________ The experts were called in for this one and NHS Choices posed the questions to Anna Shasha, Head of Women’s Nursing and Midwifery and here’s what she had to say.
