Norovirus cases are rising in Ireland

Tallaght Hospital has been forced to restrict visitors due to a major increase in cases in the hospital.

In a statement, the hospital confirmed that there has been a stark rise in cases of norovirus and Covid-19.

They shared: "We would like to remind you that all visits to patients have been suspended.

"This is in the interest of patient safety to protect your loved ones from exposure to COVID-19 and Norovirus.

"There is no visiting allowed, except by prior arrangement with a patient’s medical team in cases of end-of-life or critical illness.

"This includes no visiting anywhere on the Hospital campus, i.e., inside or outside the Hospital/Car Park etc.

"This is to protect you, your family, and healthcare staff. Visitors who attempt to visit will be turned away by security."

What are the symptoms of Norovirus?

The main symptoms of norovirus include feeling sick, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

Some people may also suffer from a slight fever, stomach cramps, aching limbs, and headaches.

You will start to experience symptoms one or two days after being infected. They typically last for around three days.

There is no cure for norovirus so patients are advised to stay home, stay hydrated, and treat symptoms with pain relief until they feel better.

Anyone with norovirus should avoid contact with others until 48 hours after all your symptoms have passed.
