HOW is this fair?!
While we have endeavoured to steer clear of diets and strict programmes that eliminate food groups, we do feel really sorry for those who have mustered up the willpower to stick to the paleo diet, if recent revelations are to be believed.
According to a new study, the high-protein, low-carb diet could result in rapid weight gain as well as a higher risk of developing diabetes.
The research, published in the Nutrition & Diabetes journal, saw mice fed a calorie-controlled diet that was low in carbs and high in fat.
Shockingly, after nine weeks, the mice had gained 15% of their original body weight AND developed insulin resistance, a precursor to type-2 diabetes.
The deduction here is that paleo type diets will also make humans more prone to weight gain and disease.
And worse than that... if/when you do reintroduce carbs to your diet, the implications only get worse.
Quick, go and order a pizza.
