Another week... we've got this!

The COVID-19 virus is continuing to spread across the country. The message from the government, the health service and the World Health Organisation remains clear; social distancing is key to flattening the curve of the coronavirus. Although we know what will work, the psychological impact of social distancing and self-isolation is beginning to take its toll. Dr. Doireann O'Leary is a Cork based GP who has been sharing (no drama) information and useful tips on how we can all cope with confinement and get through this unprecedented health crisis. I sat down with Dr. Doireann (via Skype of course) to discuss how we can all take care of our own mental health and how we can be responsible towards others. It's important to note the difference between social distancing and self-isolation and if you're confused the HSE lays it down plain and simple on their website. Most of us, at the moment, are social distancing, so we're keeping at least two metres apart or 6 feet away from other people, we're avoiding areas that are built up and we're not meeting groups of people. Essentially we're not doing all of the things that come naturally to us as humans and everything that we've ever known. So yeah, It's hard. Despite the struggles, there are things we can all do to keep our heads and bodies healthy during this time. 'Staying hopeful during this time is really important, one of the key things is remaining optimistic and getting through this. Obviously none of us want to be in this position we all wish it wasn't happening. It's hard to stay positive but we can stay optimistic'.
