This is especially true if it's the first date and you're rather fond of the lucky young man you've managed to nab yourself.
So dates can be awkward - you and him, or her, heading to dinner with one another and you have NO idea if you’ll have a single thing in common.
And, we may never get the chance to find out if it's true love should we go through dinner with stinky breath or stroppy squirts of tomato sauce across our blouse.
So, let’s imagine we’ve made it through ‘Stage 1’ - the coffee date - and now, we (and they) shall be judged further. Here’s a list of things you might not want to order so you can avoid any further awkwardness.
1. Garlic
For obvious reasons really. It might be super cleansing for the bod but you will NOT get rid of that potent stench.
2. The most expensive dish
No one likes a person who takes advantage of such a situation. Ordering the most expensive thing is not only extremely rude, it’s very, very mean. Unless you’re paying of course.
3. Sausages/ hot dogs
Maybe it’s us that has the problem here but… minds can begin to wander…
4. Ribs
They’re extremely messy and we can look as though we’ve just caught and dug into our prey. Although, if you’d like your potential partner to understand you’re truly a ravenous animal at heart, then by all means…
5. Beans
If you’re used to eating the likes of healthy black beans, kidney beans, butter beans and the likes, we assume you’re better at judging this one than us. However, prepare to be feeling a little bloated and… gassy. Eeek!
6. Spaghetti
It will not be like
Lady and the Tramp. You will proceed to look as though you’re struggling to devour your food (which would be an accurate theory) AND the chance of getting a splash of red sauce on your beautiful outfit has just jumped enormously.
7. Anything requiring chopsticks
Unless you know how to use these utensils, steer clear from them. Not only is disaster more likely, but those without chopstick skills can look SO uncultured.
8. Chopped up salad
If you’re a salad lover, try and make sure they don’t chop up those luscious green leaves too much. Those little pesky bits of basil and chives will have you wishing you packed some floss!
9. A burrito
Yes, they’re gloriously tasty. But perhaps wait until you get to date number… 5? Burritos are BIG – sure to leave you stuffed and lethargic but also a right pain to try and eat while engaging in conversation. And you can’t begin pulling out the knife and fork.
10. Seafood
For the most part, eating seafood is a straightforward option (assuming all has been done to ensure it is prepared properly) but what about the likes of muscles and lobster? Picture pieces of crustacean flesh darting across the dining room and that will be your date.
