Slow Food Dublin has today announced the details of the 2019 slow food festival, Slow in the City, which is taking place this weekend in Dublin city centre. Part of Fáilte Ireland’s Taste The Island, the family-friendly event will take place over two days. The festival aims to highlight local food and drink and its producers, the importance of urban growing and community. How nice is that? On Saturday, The Experience will offer a line-up of ticketed local experiences, including a special walk with Fab Food Trails and a Cocktail Masterclass at the Roe & Co Distillery. On Sunday, NCAD in Dublin 8 will host a day of festivities around three areas: The Workshop, The Symposium, and The Market. Throughout the day, Slow in the City will highlight the flourishing Dublin food scene, collaborating with local producers, restaurants and chefs all of who live and breathe the Slow Food ethos every day in their work. At the Soil Symposium, attendees can dive into an in-depth, informative day exploring talks and panel discussions on growing, composting, soil degradation and the importance of soil in an urban environment. The Workshop will be an intimate space for learning and sharing, with a line-up of tutorials, demonstrations and hands-on workshops for children and adults. For kids, there is a butter-making class in the morning, and chef Erica Drum will host a soda bread making class later in the day. Also part of the day, Eoin Cluskey of Bread 41 and Niall O’Sullivan, head chef of Bang Restaurant will be creating a Zero Waste Workshop. There's so much to see and do (and EAT!). Held in the yard of the National College of Art and Design, The Market will showcase some of the best of Dublin’s current food and drink producers and businesses including Clonanny Farm, the Bretzel Bakery, Maria Lucia Bakes and King of Kefir.
