It's a sad day for the staff and customers of Gerry's on Montague Street, as the café made the decision to close its doors after almost 40 years of business. The café's owner, Gerry, announced the closure on Facebook. He acknowledged the change the business has seen over the years, including two recessions, two economic booms, four presidents and nine taoisigh. Gerry wrote: "After thirty-nine years of feeding everybody from locals to tourists, politicians to guards, celebrities to hungover students, office staff to builders and everybody in the middle, it is sadly time for Gerry's Café to close our shutters and say goodbye." He continued: "It has been a privilege to have been supported by the community over the years, and we can't thank you enough for keeping our doors open through it all. "Gerry's prided itself on the quality of our food, service, and value. Gerry assured his customers that he will "continue to have a presence around the area and will be supporting the local businesses on Camden Street most weekends until closing unless there's a lock-in." He thanked his customers once more, and wrote: "Your support and friendship over the years meant a lot to our family." The post's comment section was flooded with customers sharing fond memories from visits to Gerry's. As well as attesting to the quality of the fry-up, many expressed their fondness for Gerry himself, who's been described as an "absolute gent".
