Better than another glass of pinot grigio in front of the telly.
It's been far too long since you've sipped on an overpriced cocktail in a noisy bar so this weekend, grab your family or roommates, pop on a summery playlist and blend up some tasty frozen margaritas in honour of the bank holiday.
This might be sacrilege to professional mixologists but to our minds, there's really no wrong way to make this. Play around with the ingredients to create a drink that's as sweet, sharp or boozy as you like.
This recipe makes two cocktails so multiply the measures we've given depending on how many you want to make.
What you'll need
- 2 shots of tequila
- 1 shot of Triple sec/ any orange liqueur
- A small handful of ice - you can add more ice to water it down, if that's your buzz
- 1 shot of lime juice - the stuff in a plastic bottle is grand if you don't fancy squeezing your own
- 1 shot of agave nectar - use sugar if you can't find any
- Granulated sugar
- A lime wedge
- A decent blender - you'll need one with strong blades to crush the ice
Method
- To prepare your cocktail glass, add water to one small bowl and granulated sugar to another (around a 1cm deep should do). Take the glass, turn it upside-down and wet the rim in the bowl of water. Next, dip the rim into the bowl of sugar. This step isn't at all necessary but adds an extra touch of sweetness to every sip.
- Add your tequila, Triple sec, lime juice, agave and ice to the blender. Mix until you get a slushie-like consistency with no big chunks of ice left.
- Pour into your prepared glass, garnish with a lime wedge and enjoy!
Tip
Blend up some strawberries by themselves, strain to remove any seeds and then add to the mix to make frozen strawberry margaritas. We did this with a big batch and added in an extra splash of tequila to make sure our cocktail didn't lose its sting.
