Feeling the sniffles coming on?
The ways in which we self-diagnose ourselves on a regular basis can be quite hilarious. After all, most of the time we're just opting for the easiest way of finding a diagnosis but that often comes with added panic.
Let's have a giggle at the various ways we’ve taken to diagnosing our helpless, fearful selves in the past.
Google
Well, obviously. We feel a slight twinge in our leg, a minor pain in our ear and BANG! The phone is out, Google is diagnosing us and… we MAY need to get something amputated. Oh goodie.
Mammy
Mum really does know best BUT mum also worries about us A LOT. We don’t eat nutritiously enough, we don’t wear warm enough clothes, we don’t go to bed early, we don’t eat ‘bulky’ foods – you know, the ones that give you extra reserves of fat for survival as though we live in the wild. We then wonder, what does mum expect will happen? One thing for sure, that woman is prepared for the worst.
Friends
Mention any symptom to your best buds and they’ll have a number of stories about ‘Laura’s friend’ who had a MAJOR scare but luckily, they ‘caught it on time.’ Oh fab, so in other words, you’re in BIG trouble.
Myths
We’ve heard all the stories - we can’t wear antiperspirant, going out with wet hair will give us pneumonia, cracking our finger joints will give us arthritis. For all of the above, there is no certainty that those are the results that will follow.
Movies and TV
There are some things that always remain in our minds. Like in
Friends when Joey peed on Monica after a jellyfish sting. Was that REALLY necessary? Would this help with a wasp sting too? Only one way to find out. Eeeek.
Our brains
The outcome really depends on what kind of person we are. If we happen to be calm and logical, it’s likely that our self-diagnosis will coincide with this. If stress, panic and worry are major factors of our current state of mind, there’s a great chance Digital Doctor is the way to go!
