Recent figures published by the Central Statistics Office have shown that Ireland paid 38% more in 2012 than the rest of Europe for staple food items such as fruit, vegetables and potatoes. (We can't believe the last one either).
The survey was based on 500 comparable products throughout all EU state member and 12 other countries.
