If you're really lucky like we are, at least one of your grandparents will have had a formative influence on your life. Along with our parents, they're our biggest supporters in life.
One of the best things about spending time with a grandparent is getting a glimpse into their take on the world. They've seen it all, faced more challenges than we can begin to imagine, and encountered more people than it's worth talking about.
Here are ten great pieces of advice we've received from our grandparents.
1. "What's for you won't pass you."
This one is definitely passed down through the generations in alot of our families; we've all been told this at some point. These are probably the six most comforting words you can hear when it's all going wrong. And they're right, you know. Words of wisdom for life.
2. "Always put a high price on yourself."
Another great nugget to remember when things aren't working out. Never sell yourself short.
3. "Beauty is only skin deep."
As told to one Her.ie writer by her granny, ‘You don’t look at the mantelpiece when you’re poking the fire.’ What a legend.
4. "There's plenty more fish in the sea."
It seems that our grannies have an awful lot to say when it comes to our love lives. From little gems like: 'Find yourself a nice man who will pick up after himself and who can cook,' to: ‘Never run after a man or a bus, there’ll be another along in a minute,’ we've got plenty of advice to keep in mind in the romance department.
Our favourite? 'Never marry a farmer.' Short and to the point.
5. "Be careful of the company you keep."
They do say that you are who your friends are. Or as one of our grannies put it: 'If you lie down with dogs you'll get up with fleas.'
6. "Be your own person."
A great piece of guidance from one Her.ie Grandad: 'Don't worry about other people's opinions. Act according to your own conscience, and as long as you uphold high standards of honesty and integrity, don't worry about what anybody else does or says.'
7. "Never sit inside on a sunny day."
And while you're at it don't go outside with wet hair. Unless you're looking for a fresh cold.
8. "Honesty is the best policy."
Lies get you nowhere. An excellent piece of advice to take with us through life.
9. "It costs nothing to be kind."
As one Her.ie granny says: 'Nobody starts out in life wanting to be a bad person; maybe they just need a break.'
10. "Worrying is like sitting in a rocking chair...
You can do it for hours, but it gets you nowhere."
But if you are a worrier, follow this piece of advice: 'Worry about what's inside your front door, and everything else will take care of itself.'

Honourable mention: 'No matter where you go, you never have to pack an eejit, because they will find you.'
