In a recent UNICEF league table Ireland ranked tenth, out of 29 countries, for the overall well-being of children.
The study found that children in Ireland were the most active with a third exercising for at least an hour a day.
Ireland ranked highest in terms of children exercising.
Most Irish children also take breakfast every day but over 10 per cent were found to be overweight.
It was revealed that the amount of children smoking and/or drinking had fallen with a modest decline in teenage pregnancies as well.
The amount of kids smoking had decreased as had drinking and teenage pregnancies.
The Netherlands retained its number one position. Norway, Iceland, Finland and Sweden finished off the top five. The research for the league table was carried out between 2001 and 2010.
