Doctors had actually told Jamie shortly before Camilla and Nico arrived via c-section that she had beaten cancer for a second time. She opted to have a hysterectomy to remove any remnants of the disease but she died from heart failure following surgery.
At 33 weeks, her new babies had been born prematurely at the Stanford Medical Care Center in Palo Alto; they weighed just 3½ pounds each - but they are healthy.
“What gives me peace in my heart is she got to see those babies and hold them and be with them a little bit,” her friend Larina Campanile also told KGO-TV.
The twins have since been moved out of hospital and are living with members of their parents' extended family. When they are a little stronger, they will move to New Hampshire on the other side of the US - more than 5,000km away.
There they will be with their father, Heath Coigny, and older siblings, Aubrey and Maddie.
GoFundMe pages have been set up in order to help the family manage the cost of the
memorial,
funeral, and related
expenses.
