At least he has the good grace to quit…
A UK councillor has resigned after public outrage regarding comments he made about disabled children.
Cornwall councilor Collin Brewer yesterday apologised for saying that disabled children should be "put down" because they cost the authority too much money.
Brewer had previously refused to resign over the outcry, saying his comments were designed to "provoke a debate".
The comments were made by the councilor to a disabilities charity at an event planned to allow councillors to meet equal opportunity organisations. When speaking to a representative for Disability Cornwall, he was informed of the work carried out by the charity and responded by saying: "Disabled children cost the council too much money and should be put down."
Brewer has now told the BBC he realised his comments were unacceptable and that it was unlikely he would run as a candidate in the May elections.
Amongst his many critics this week was Katie Price, whose son Harvey is disabled.
