“Wow… Oh My God” – EastEnders Star Shane Richie on Kat and Alfie’s Future

EastEnders star Shane Richie has revealed that 2015 is going to be an eventful year for Kat and Alfie Moon. The onscreen couple have certainly had their ups and downs this year (most notably the house fire that Alfie started in order to claim insurance but left Kat with serious burns) but it’s not going to end there. Apparently producer Dominic Treadwell-Collins told Shane and Jessie Wallace, who play the loveable pair, what’s in store for their characters and it sounds like it’s going to be huge. Kat was hospitalised after the fire that her husband Alfie started. Shane told Digital Spy: “I had a meeting with Dom and he just talked me and Jessie through storylines leading up to Easter, and wow. He’s just told me and I’ve gone, ‘Oh my God.’ “The stuff that Kat and Alfie are going to play between January and Easter, it’s almost like 12/13 years of Kat and Alfie just goes bang, like that.” They are one of Albert Square's most popular couples. The actor, who first appeared in the soap back in 2002, added that the strong storylines are the reason he wants to stay with the show. He explained: “When the contracts are coming up and it’s a case of whether you’re going to stay or go, I say, ‘No, I need to stay now, I need to see this through, Kat and Alfie.’ I know Jessie’s really excited about it all and I certainly am, but I can’t tell you what it is!”
