Focusing again on a brilliant Irish character, Calvary tells the story of Father James Lavelle, a priest, played by Gleeson, whose life is threatened during confession and finds himself suspecting those around him.
The film cast includes the very best in Irish talent, Aiden Gillen, Chris O'Dowd, Dylan Moran, David Wilmot and Killian Scott.
Calvary is due to open the Jameson Dublin International Film Festival this year with both Brendan Gleeson and John Michael McDonagh in attendance.
Festival Director Gráinne Humphreys noted that: “2014 is going to be a vintage year for Irish cinema with an incredible line-up of new features and documentaries from emerging and established names. As the 2014 opening night presentation, we’re honoured to have the Irish premiere of John Michael McDonagh's spectacular Calvary, a remarkable example of the strength of the Irish film industry at the moment.”
The Jameson Dublin International Film Festival will run from the 13th to the 23rd of February, 2014. Tickets for Calvary are still available on JDIFF.com.
