The premiere date for Game of Thrones’ final season has finally been revealed

And so our watch begins.

After what feels like just about forever, a premier date for Game of Thrones' final season has been announced. Fans have been waiting for the final six episodes of the HBO epic since August 2017 - and, honestly, we thought we were going to have to wait forever for an inkling of when it would premiere. After all, season seven's premiere date was announced in a melting block of ice. But, no, Game of Thrones confirmed on Twitter today [November 13] that season eight will begin in April 2019. Sadly, there was no new footage included in the reveal (we wish). Instead, it was a recap of many of the big events that have happened in the world of Westeros over the years. They captioned the preview:

"Every battle. Every betrayal. Every risk. Every fight. Every sacrifice. Every death. All #ForTheThrone"

Only two seasons - season three and season seven - didn't premiere in April. Game of Thrones' return will be eight years after the first episode aired on HBO in April 2011.
