In 1973, Lynyrd Skynyrd released the banger that is 'Sweet Home Alabama.' Then, a mere 29 years later, Reese Witherspoon and Patrick Dempsey starred in the incredible and deeply iconic movie of the same name. A story of love, a story of loss, a story of a big city gal returning to her roots, remembering where she came from, and ultimately realising that Josh Lucas is the man she wanted all along. The film has got everything we could possibly ever want from an early noughties rom com - Reese, a dramatic wedding realisation, and of course, Patrick Dempsey. It's a decent enough shout for any Bank Holiday weekend beginning, so if you don't happen to have any plans this evening, you're in luck because the aforementioned movie is indeed on the telly. So get comfortable, lash on Comedy Central at 9pm, and enjoy yourself. You're welcome. Sweet Home Alabama received mixed reviews following its release, but that doesn't really matter all that much considering its well deserved status as a piece of art. Vogue called it "a classic tale of deception and the American Dream, this movie has everything," while Common Sense Media said that "Witherspoon's charm keeps this movie afloat." Village Voice was less forgiven, saying that "Despite her relentless vim and winsome facial symmetry, Witherspoon is just too dialed-up to be America's Sweetheart." The Washington Post said: "If you're a fan of Witherspoon, this movie was produced, shot, edited and distributed entirely for you." And hey, that's hardly a negative, right?
