Another person who has also admitted it is Pattinson himself, who was recently chatting about his decision to star in the series in the first place.
He told Variety's Actors on Actors series that he enjoyed director Catherine Hardwicke's previous work, and that was pretty much the reason why he decided to get involved.
“I guess the books, they are very romantic, but at the same time, it’s not like The Notebook romantic," he said.
“Twilight is about this guy who finds the one girl he wants to be with, and also wants to eat her. Well, not eat — drink her blood or whatever.
“I thought it was a strange story. Even the way I promoted it, I was very open about how strange I thought it was when I was doing it."
Pattinson added that he thought the first film sounded "very indie" akin to Hardwicke's other movies which include Thirteen and Lords of Dogtown.
A gritty coming-of-age tale it was not, but hey look, we all make mistakes.
