Back when Renée Zellweger first played the role of Bridget Jones people were shocked by how good her English accent was. She's from Texas and there wasn't even a hint of it when she would speak as Bridget. She spent a few months in England preparing for the role and absorbing the accent as best she could.
She's just revealed some of the sources of her inspiration and we did not expect them. Included in the list are EastEnders and The Archers, which aren't too surprising but she said she also watched Ali G to practice on her accent.
Speaking to The Telegraph she said, "I listened to The Archers, I watched EastEnders and Ali G on TV. I watched the news. I read magazines to see who were the current-day icons in English culture, to get an idea about who she might aspire to emulate. After a while, I was humming along to Spice Girls songs."
She also spoke her love of Bridget saying, "I love this character and all the people involved. So many people feel they can relate to her because they've shared her awkwardness and they've shared her humiliation. She makes it OK to be imperfect and we are all kind of looking for that."
She's back again for a third time as our favourite character. This time, we'll see a pregnant Bridget trying to find out who the baby of her father is, Mark Darcy or new love interest Jack who's played by Patrick Dempsey.
It's out September 16th and we cannot wait.
