ncninetynine, has realised that Lily Potter, Harry's mum, died at the age of 21. Yes, that's correct 21. Not like 30+ which we all assumed.
People have been doing the maths and here's how it works out. Lily was born in 1960 and died at the hand of Voldemort in 1981, when Harry was only one.
Another Redditor added, "I think many people assume they were older because of the movies. 21-year-old James looks like he's 40 where 16-year-old James looks his age. I guess fighting Voldemort ages you prematurely."
It hasn't exactly been a secret though and we could have figured it out for ourselves when they showed Hermione laying a wreath on Lily and James' graves in
Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Part 1.
You can just about see that it says 1960 for the date of birth.
