Netflix have announced the cancellation of
American Vandal after two seasons.
The spoof series followed two high school students, Sam Ecklund and Peter Maldonado, as they solved various crimes - including the mystery of who spray painted two dozen faculty members' cars with penises in season one; and the mystery of the Turd Burgler in season two.
The streaming service issued a statement on the news
[via EW], which said:
“American Vandal will not return for a third season.
“We’re very grateful to the creators, writers, cast and crew for bringing their innovative comedy to Netflix, and to the fans and critics who embraced its unique and unconventional humor.”
The true-crime mockumentary launched its second season last month.
Entertainment Weekly report that CBS TV Studios - the folks who produce the series - have already gotten a number of calls about possibly saving the series with a third season.
Tyler Alvarez, who played Peter, previously hinted at a "really strong" concept for the third season - if there was one.
After season two landed on Netflix last month,
he said:
“I’m really excited. I hope we get to make it.… Nothing’s been presented, but I’ve heard bits and pieces of where they want to take the story, and I’m super-excited about it. Again, it would be very different, which is exciting.”
