Forget winding back the clocks, bribery or trying to tire them out all day – Netflix is going to help you convince your children to head to bed early on New Year’s Eve.
While you might want a few hours to unwind with a glass of wine to watch the countdown, the TV and movie streaming service is now offering a pre-scheduled New Year’s Eve countdown to help parents convince their offspring it’s hitting midnight by 9pm.
According to Mail Online, the Netflix team conducted a survey which found 87 per cent of parents will celebrate New Year's Eve with their kids, and that 34 per cent of those parents already fool their kids into thinking it's midnight at an earlier time.
So to solve some of their problems, and to ease any tension before the New Year, Netflix has commissioned a special show starring King Julien – the lead in DreamWorks Animation’s ‘All Hail King Julien’.
The animated lemur will host his very own kid-sized countdown “special” on Netflix which will help families ring in the New Year at a time suited to everyone in the family.

Explaining the concept in a statement, Netflix said:
‘Midnight, shmidnight. This year you can celebrate as a family and still have time for a parents-only party with a whole new set of New Year’s Eve countdowns on Netflix designed for preschoolers, tweens and everyone in between. No matter where you are, start your party anytime, anywhere by searching New Year’s Eve Countdown on Netflix.’
