Meghan Markle’ll have to watch EastEnders this Christmas with the Queen and good luck, like

What a way to spend the day, in fairness.

Everybody has their own Christmas traditions they like to drag out and make everyone adhere to during the festive season. Having a cheeky glass of Baileys for breakfast is one. Going for a freezing cold morning swim is another. And sticking on the soaps on Christmas evening and falling asleep while Danny Dyer screeches at somebody to get out of his pub is another. And while one might assume that that last one is reserved only for elderly couples and middle aged aunts who've been glued to Albert Square all year round, one would be wrong. Because this year, Mrs Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, newest member of the royal family is also going to be watching EastEnders at the request of Her Majesty the Queen. And yeah, absolute lol, to be honest. The Sun reports that watching the London based soap is a "non-negotiable" part of the Queen's Christmas based activities so Meghan and all the rest of them are going to have to stall it up to Sandringham for the evening and sit through the hour long special whether they like it or not. Absolutely harrowing times. A source told the publication:

“The Queen loves EastEnders, and every Christmas, without fail, the telly goes on and the strains of the show’s distinctive theme tune bellow out. “It is an unlikely family tradition, and non-negotiable - even more so than watching the Queen’s speech! Obviously a couple of jokes have already been made about switching on the subtitles this year."
