Mark-Paul Gosselaar has revealed new details about the Saved by the Bell reboot.

Last year, it emerged that iconic comedy was given a straight-to-series order on NBCUnviersal's new streaming service, Peacock. The series would explore what happens when California Gov. Zack Morris gets in trouble after closing too many low-income schools. He ends up suggesting that the students who are affected be sent to the highest performing schools in California - which, in this case, would include Bayside High. The new students give the privileged students of Bayside High a "much-needed and hilarious" reality check. And speaking to TVLine recently, Mark-Paul Gosselaar - who is set to reprise his role as Zack Morris for a few episodes - revealed a bit about what fans can expect from the series. He explained that the series is"way more current" this time around, and praised showrunner Tracey Wigfield for "freshening it up". “Tracey’s done a really good job of freshening it up, staying true to the characters but also pointing out how absurd some of [the storylines] were [and] having fun with it," he said. "Her comedy pushes the envelope a little bit, and that light into the new [revival] is much needed.” And as for how Zack is doing in the reboot, it turns out he's "offensive" and "not on the right side of things." Funny or Die‘s Dashiell Driscoll, the executive producer of the web-series Zack Morris Is Trash, is among those in the writers' room for the reboot. Gosselar said he was a "huge fan" of the web-series, which revisits the original Saved By The Bell to find that Zack's always been “a completely horrible human being.” "Some of that is in [the revival], which I absolutely love: Zack Morris being a little offensive and sort of not being on the right side of things," the actor added.
